The work of caring for and arranging the linens, vessels, vestments and flowers enhances and promotes a worshipful and beautiful liturgy for those attending the services. It means that the word of the Lord can be preached and the Eucharist celebrated with grace and power in an appropriately prepared space. The functions of the Altar Guild go back through church history to the old testament so performance of these duties can be a way of connecting to the great traditions of the church. As baptized Christians we are to work, pray and give for the spread of God's kingdom.
Commissions and Guilds
Worship is the work of all the people, lay and ordained, praying, praising and giving thanks together in the power of the spirit and in the presence of the living God. Adult and Youth Lay Readers lead the congregation in meditating on scripture and in the prayers. Lay people also serve the chalice during communion. Deacon David Grauer leads this ministry.
